Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC)
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has two programs designed to reduce the retired pay reduction due to receipt of Veterans Administration (VA) compensation for certain disabled retirees.
Concurrent Retirement and Disability Payments (CRDP) provides a 10-year phase-out of the offset to military retired pay due to receipt of VA disability compensation for Veterans with 20 years of creditable military service and VA service-connected disability rating of 50% or greater. CRDP is taxable and not retroactive. It does not provide immediate full monthly payments and has 3-year phase in (2009) for Individual Unemployment (IU) if applicable. CRDP is automatically awarded to eligible retired Veterans, and no application is required.
Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) pays added benefits to retired Veterans with 20 years of creditable military service and VA combat-related disability rating of 10% or greater. CRSC is retroactive and tax free. It provides immediate full monthly payments, including Individual Unemployment (IU) if applicable. Veterans must contact their respective military service branch for additional information and to apply for CRSC.
